William Lewis Hassenmayer, 86, of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2021, Bill was born May 7, 1935 in Middletown, N.Y. to the late Theodore and Pearl Lewis Hassenmayer
Before Bill graduated from Middletown High School 1954 he joined the Naval Reserves and served 8 yearly primarily in Newburgh, N,Y.
Bill began his career as a carpenter contractor in Middletown, NY before he moved to Pr. Anne in 1988 and continued working until his retirement in 2007,
An avid hunter and fisherman since childhood, Bill favored archery which lead him to becoming a founding/life member of the Orange Archers II in Middletown where he served as President for 7 years. In 1981 he joined the Professional Bowhunters Society then became a founding/life member of the Traditional Bowhunters of Maryland, serving several years as an officer including 1 year as President.
Bill loved the outdoors especially organic gardening, which he shared with his many friends and neighbors, and his membership at Olivet Christian Church was also very important to him.
Bill is survived by a sister, Nancy Forbes of Middletown, NY as well as numerous nieces and nephews, AND Helga, his loyal cat companion !
A remembrance mass will be held at the Olivet Christian Church on September 26, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. His ashes will be returned to his favorite hunting area.
