IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William F.
Fitzgerald
August 31, 1924 – July 23, 2025
William Franklin Fitzgerald, 100 years of age, passed away peacefully at home in Salisbury, MD on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Born on the Family Farm "Wallers Adventure" on Little Monie Creek in Venton, MD on August 31, 1924, he was a son of the late E. Frank Fitzgerald and Dorothy Baltz Fitzgerald.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1941 and continued working on the family farm during World War II.
Bill began working in the propane business in Princess Anne in 1948 for Abbott Gas Company. He went to Salisbury in business as Chesapeake Propane and then to Suburban Gas in Fruitland where he retired after 37 years.
Bill was always a busy man both in work and play. He had dump trucks and a bush hog mowing business on Deal Island. He and his brother, Bob, farmed together for 45 years.
During his life he was an avid marksman, hunter, trapper and fisherman. He had pleasure boats and was a skilled water-skier.
Most of all he loved to drive across the United States and Canada. One trip he and his wife, Amelia, drove to Alaska and left Fairbanks and drove to Key West, Florida just because he wanted to.
Following a marriage of 62 years to "Melie" who passed away in June 2000, he continued to travel with his companion, Kathy Holloway in a motor home and enjoyed many winter trips to Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Powell Fitzgerald; his sister, Kathleen Fitzgerald Hughes and her husband Elmer Hughes; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fitzgerald; and a nephew, Patrick Hughes.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Amelia Reese (Crispin) and Jeannie White (Tom); his loving companion of over 20 years, Kathy Holloway and her daughter, Kaye Kane (Mike); his brother, Robert "Bob" Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Aimee Mayerchin (Lee), Emilee Hollingsworth (Mary), Dexter Brown (Nikki), Kimberly White, Aaron Byrd (Bruce), and Kristin Davenport (CJ); and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephews, Elmer Hughes and Jeffery Hughes.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 6-8PM at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 11 AM at All Saints Monie Cemetery in Venton, MD. Pastor David Webster will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.
