Perryhawkin - Walter Lee West Sr, age 99 and 7 months was born on May 15, 1923, and was a prayer warrior and witness to God right up to his last day on earth, December 30,2022. His faith was an inspiration to all that knew him. He was a faithful husband, loving dad, and grandfather. He was born in Perryhawkin, Maryland to the late Cyrus and Gertrude West. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Louise Conaway West and Cindy D. West and a brother Vernon C. West.
Walter is survived by his son, Walter Lee (Teresa) West Jr, grandchildren, Taylor Louise (Brandon) McCormick, Dillon Cyrus (Sarah Wells) West, and a great grandson, Waylon Lee West.
He was a poultry and grain farmer for over 50 years and loved to be outside. He was a member of the Somerset County Farm Bureau and served on numerous Agricultural Committees. He was awarded the Jefferson Award for volunteer service in 2008.
Music was his joy in life along with his family. He loved to entertain people by playing the piano, organ and accordion. He was the organist for Hinman's Funeral Home for many years, helping support families in their time of grief with music. Playing for people at church, nursing homes, weddings and community events gave him a way to share his Christian faith with people. Music was his way of using his God given talents to serve his Lord, Jesus Christ.
Funeral Services will be held on January 7, 2023 at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Larry Reed officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service starting at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at the Perryhawkin Christian Church Cemetery.
Following the burial service, family and friends will gather at the church hall for refreshments. In lieu of flowers, as requested by the deceased, any donations can please be made to the Perryhawkin Christian Church Cemetery Fund at PO Box 247, Pocomoke City MD 21851.
