Woodrow Wilson Hoffman,89, of Wenona, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born on April 23, 1921 in Wenona, he was a son of the late Stanley Hoffman and Helen Daniels Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman worked as a waterman and boat captain. He was a licensed Coast Guard tugboat captain formerly employed by C.J. Langenfelder, was a 12 year employee with Dept of Natural Resources and had worked for Somerset Seafood in Deal Island for 28 years . He also formerly worked for Glenn L. Martin in Baltimore building aircraft during WWII. Mr. Hoffman was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona and charter member of the Deal Island Chance Volunteer Fire Co. He loved fishing, eating crabs, duck hunting and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Julia Alverda Webster Hoffman of Wenona; five children, Albert & Virginia Hoffman of Deal Island, Winston and Sharon Hoffman of Salisbury, Dianne and Victor Pizzaia of Parsonsburg, Helen and Kevin Jones of Deal Island and Julie Webster and Mark Dean of Deal Island; 12 grandchildren, Albert, Jr., Sarah, Amanda, Lisa, Robin, Kimberly, Christina, Richard, Erin, Ryan, Lauren and Dusty.; 10 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Stanley Scroggs; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were sisters, Mavis Scroggs, Alice Hofmann, Nathalie Truitt, brothers, Roger Hoffman and Stanley Hoffman, Jr. and a step-brother, Clark Kelly.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Lindy Adams and Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Pauls U. M. Church, PO Box 54, Deal Island, MD 21821 or to the Deal Island Chance Volunteer Fire Co. , PO Box 158, Deal Island, MD 21821.
