Thomas Franklin Long passed away Monday, January 16, 2012, at home with his family by his side. He was born February 21,1933 in Princess Anne, Md. He was the son of the lateEarl Thomasand Florence Baylis Long,
Thomas was a lifetime farmer of Somerset County. He was a past Officer and life time member of the Md. Farm Bureau, and was a Recipient of the Fulton Green Memorial Award from the Somerset Co. Farm Bureau , Young Farmers. As a member of the U. S. Army, he was in the 6th. Ordnance Co., 71st. Ordnance Battalion. He graduated from the Guided Missle Propellant Explosive Specialist Course at Redstone Arsenal, Al. He served his tour of duty in Germany, then transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves as Sergeant. He was associated with Antioch United Methodist Church. He was a 37 year member of the Somerset Ruritans, and Past President and organizer of the Ruritan Carnival, for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Crouch Long, his children, Ruth Ann Long, and her husband Barry, of Exmore, Va., Ellen Long Hollyfield, and husband Lester of Va. Beach, Va., and David Franklin Long and his wife, Susan of Salisbury Md. He is also survived by his Grandchildren, Patrick Thomas Long of Exmore, Va. Lori Ann Long Sturgis and her husband Lee, of Painter Va., and Daniel Thomas Sullivan of Va. Beach, Va. Preceding him in death was his 10 1/2 year old grandaughter, Rachel Marie Sullivan of Va. Beach, Va.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for Friday Jan. 20th., at 1:oo PM. at the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Friends may call Thursday Evening from 6:00 till 8:oo PM. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service on Friday in the Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne. Rev. William Kniceley will officiate.
