Salisbury - Shirley Roberta (Cyphers) Manning, 88, beloved mother, grandmother and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Coastal Hospice of the Lake. Born on June 24, 1935, in Richland, Virginia to Herschel G. and Maude Cyphers. She was one of six children and spent her formative years in Pulaski, Virginia.
Throughout her life, Shirley dedicated herself to service and compassion. She worked diligently for various organizations, including Hutzler's Congress Hotel, Bob's School Bus Service, and US Air. Her commitment to her faith led her to serve as a devoted member of Laurel Baptist Church and, most recently, Immanuel Baptist Church, where she contributed as a teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and Women's Missionary Union member. Shirley's compassionate spirit extended beyond the walls of the church, as she used her crafting talents to create pillowcase dresses for underprivileged children overseas.
Shirley's devotion to her family was unwavering. As a loving mother of four children, she actively participated in their lives, supporting them in their various endeavors, whether it was scouting, majorette performances, or drum events during their high school years. She cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, finding joy in spending time with her family and creating lasting memories.
Together with her husband, Jim, Shirley embarked on adventures, traveling across the United States twice and creating cherished memories along the way. In her leisure time, Shirley could often be found indulging in her hobbies of sewing, crocheting, reading her Bible, or exploring treasures at yard sales.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and selflessness. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her faith and family will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lucy Webster and her husband Gary, grandchildren, Shirl (Rudy) Hancock (Blair and Jack, Bridget, Brook), Jessica (George) Lemon (Makayla); son, Michael Manning and his wife, Gail, grandchildren, Melissa Manning (Ava, Landon, Emma), Ashely Manning (Lilianna), Taylor Manning, Michael Manning; son, Richard "Chappy" Manning and his wife, Rosa, grandchildren, Ambar (Zack) Hill, Joseph (Shannon) Manning (Miranda), Chad (Savannah) Manning (Jaxxon, Reece, Kelvin (Skylar) Beltran (Hayes, Shiloh); son, David Manning and his wife Christy, grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Staab (Hailey, Michael), David Manning, Jr., Jessica (Stefan) Debic, Rebecca Manning, Dale Manning, Tyler Manning and two additional great grandchildren David and Cyrus Manning Parkinson. She is also survived by sisters, Patricia Beckner and her husband, Paul, Sandra O'Neil and a special niece Katherine "Nokey" Reed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years James C. "Jim" Manning; siblings, Bobby Banks and his wife, Ann, Mora "Corky" Lecorchick and her husband, Ed and Linda Jeffers and a brother in laws, Ed Lecorchick and Dick O'Neil.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11 am at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1514 Old Ocean City Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Jim, at the Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coastal Hospice at the Lake, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
