Sandie was born Sandra Lee Ratcliffe in November of 1941 to the Late Virginia Mumford and Carl Ratcliffe Sr. in Salisbury, MD. After graduating from Wicomico High School in 1960 she enlisted with the United States Navy where she served for six years until being honorably discharged. Upon completing her service in the U. S. Navy, Sandie attended Northern Virginia Community College. After graduation Sandie remained in the area where she went to work for the department of Energy and quickly rose through the ranks to become an Electric Power Industry Specialist. A position she held until her retirement in 2002.
Sandie was a true Maryland girl and could always be found cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins from both stadium and living room seat in the warm and welcoming home she created with her companion of 47 years Ann Duewer. An avid nature lover Sandie took great pleasure in working in her garden every spring and summer and watching the wildlife from her back porch every morning with her cup of coffee in her Maryland home of over thirty years. Sandie's love of sports could only be rivaled by the love and care she showered upon her family.
She is survived by Ann Duewer in Silversprings, MD and her sisters Leslie Ann Elliott of Nashville, TN and Mary Frances Whitelock of Chance, MD and is predeceased by brothers John and Carl Ratcliffe, JR. Numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and four great-great nephews will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD. Following the service she will be laid to rest at the Rock Creek Cemetery in Chance, MD.
