Samuel J.M. Stutsman of Snow Hill passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at home. He was 79 years old and the fifth son of eight children (seven boys and one girl). He was the son of the late Ralph F. Stutsman and May Elizabeth Miller and was born on Aug. 18, 1933, in Goshen, Ind. Samuel graduated from Concord High School in 1951. He joined the Bretheren Volunteer Service and came to Maryland working as a milk tester. He then met his wife of 58 years, Ila Jean, at the Church of the Bretheren in Easton. The Stutsman family farm in Goshen is a Centennial farm deeded from President Andrew Jackson in 1833. He farmed in Cecil County for 20 years then worked 15 years as maintenance foreman for Salisbury State College in Salisbury, after he retired in 1995 from the District Court Multiservice Center as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Delmarva Campers Club and an avid hunter, and after retirement, Samuel and his wife traveled various places, including Alaska, his dream destination.
Mr. Stutsman is survived by his wife, Ila Jean Mankamyer; his three children, Carolyn J. Porter (William A.) of Montana, L. Dean Stutsman (Cheryl East) of Pocomoke City and Darlene J. Wodkins of Snow Hill; a sister, Rachel Barden (Robert); three brothers, David R. Stutsman (Katherine), Nelson R. Stutsman (Barbara) and Thomas E. Stutsman (Sharon), all of Indiana. He is also survived by four grandchildren, William A. Porter (Sarah) of Montana, Seth M. Porter (Andrea) of Washington, Jennifer M. Porter (fiance Aaron Collins) of Maryland and Cory O. Wodkins of Snow Hill; four great-grandchildren, Lilly and Emma Porter, Madison Wodkins and Alec Collins; and Precious Stutsman (his grand-puppy).

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor E. Thomas Northam will officiate. Interment will take place in Quinton Cemetery near Pocomoke.
