Obituary

Dames Quarter – Ruth Virginia Shores McInturff, 94, of here passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Born on November 5, 1929, she was the daughter of Delmas Edward and Eva Louise (Shores) Shores Sr.

Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Deal Island School in Deal Island, and Beacom College in Wilmington, DE. She worked for many years as an office manager for Bountiful Ridge Nursery, and as a postal clerk at the Dames Quarter, MD Post Office. She enjoyed travelling with her husband Mackie, bus trips, eating out, spending time with friends and family, watching and feeding birds, the Red Hatters Club, attending the local MAC, and going to church. Ruth was a lifelong member of Somerset Methodist Church in Dames Quarter.

Ruth is survived by two sons, William (Bill(y) McInturff (Debbie) of Dames Quarter, and Barry McInturff (Karen) of Ocean Pines; a sister, Christine Kline of Salisbury; grandchildren, Michele (Kevin), Chelsea (Amanda), Adam (Tayler) and Gabe (Mary); great-grandchildren, Alayna (John), Colby, Mae, Jude, and Willow; and great- great – granddaughter, Ellie. And several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband William (Mackie) McInturff, a son William Edward, a brother Edward Shores, a special cousin Addie (Ford) Porter, dear neighbors Henry and "Tootsie" Bedsworth, and all of the members of the ( "group of 8"), who met at each other's homes every Saturday night for fellowship, a meal, and bible study over many years.

The family would like to express our special thanks to Denise Gandy, who was instrumental in helping care for Mom and keep her at home over the last several months. We would also like to thank all the folks from Coastal Hospice for their compassionate help, especially her nurse Carol, and Chaplain Chet.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD, with visitation from 11:30 to 1:00. Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne. The Reverend David Webster will officiate.
