Obituary




Ruth Horner, 99, of Mount Vernon, passed away on November 27, 2012 at Manokin Manor Nursing Home.
Miss Ruth, as she was known, was born on February 13, 1913 to the late William and Anna Northam. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Horner, brother Earl Northam, sister Lillie Noble, and her only child Annabelle Layfield Glascock.
Ruth was a devout Christian who witnessed to and converted many people her entire life. She never met a stranger and everyone that came to know her loved her caring and gentle nature.
She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Asbury United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. She worked for many years at the former Foggy Bottom.
She is survived by her granddaughter Lisa Layfield Sherman and husband Jon of Dallas, Texas, grandson Wayne Layfield and wife Elizabeth of Westover, Maryland, great grandchildren Collin and Katie Sherman and Joshua, Jordan, and Jacob Layfield.
She is also survived by 2 very special and dear friends Steve and Mary Horner of Princess Anne.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p. m. at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Friends and family may call from 1:00 to 2:00 p. m. Internment will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mount Vernon following the service.
