Russell J. "Sonny" Powell, Jr., 83, of Princess Anne, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.

Sonny was born December 9, 1942 in Salisbury and raised in Princess Anne.  He was a son of the late Russell J. Powell, Sr. and Georgia Davis Powell.

Sonny is survived by his brother, Robert "Buddy" Powell of Princess Anne; a nephew, Brad Hickman of Easton; and one cousin, Joan Mazini of Florida.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Hickman.

Sonny graduated from Washington High School in 1961.  He was inducted in the U.S. Army and served one tour in Vietnam.  Upon his return home and discharge, Sonny began a lifelong farming career.

Sonny enjoyed mule riding and racoon hunting, but his first love was farming with his brother.  He was a member of The Friendship Church in West Post Office.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11 AM. at Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne, MD.  Pastor Larry Reed will officiate.
