Obituary

Eden: Robert Clayton Ball, 79 of here died on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 at his home after a long and courageous battle against Parkinson's Disease. Born in Eden, Mr. Ball was the son of the late Charles Gladstone Ball and Mattie Regina Dykes Ball. Mr. Ball received his Bachelor's degree from the former Salisbury State Teachers College (Salisbury University) and a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Mr. Ball was a farmer and had been employed for 16 years at the Eden Post Office. He was also the assistant director of Wicomico County Department of Social Services for 18 years and was on the Board of Directors of Telemon Corporation. Mr. Ball was a member of Old Friendship United Methodist Church in West Post Office. He joined the Fruitland Lions Club in 1971, serving on many committees, most importantly on the sight and hearing committee. A recipient of distinguished service award in 1987-1988 he was also Lion of the year in 2000-2001 and received the Melvin Jones Award for distinguished service in 2008.
He is survived by his wife Esther Harrington Ball, a daughter , Daphne Chatham and her husband Grover T. "Todd" Chatham, Jr. of Eden, Two grandchildren, Grover T. "Trey" Chatham III of Eden and Brittany Joseph of Mt Vernon , a great-grandson, Dallas Elliott Tatum, Jr. a brother, David Ball and his wife Anne of Siloam and a sister, Elouise Williams and her husband Tom of St. Petersburg, Florida. Also survived by a nephew, James H. Ball and his wife Joan of Willards and a niece, Lisa Coleman and her husband Bill of Cambridge. A late brother was Herbert Ball, a late sister in law was Vivian Ball and a late nephew was Joseph Ball.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 10th at 2: PM at the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne where friends may call from 12 to 2 PM. Interment will be in Zion Cemetery in Eden.
