IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Van
Watson
May 12, 1961 – May 12, 2023
Mt. Vernon - Richard Van Watson, 62, of Mount Vernon, Maryland went to be with our Lord Monday, May 12, 2023. He was born in Salisbury, Maryland on May 12, 1961 to Richard Lee and Betty Jean Watson. He graduated from Wicomico Senior High School, Class of 1979, and went on to attend Salisbury State College. He graduated from Wilma Boyd Career School and went on to work for a short time at Salisbury-Wicomico County Airport. Throughout his life, Van held positions at various companies including The Connection, Marvil Package Company, and Wayne Division-Dresser Industries.
Van had a passion for anything "automobile". He enjoyed collecting and reading car books and magazines, attending auto shows, and performing auto body work and customizations. Music was a favorite pastime, particularly listening to Elvis and Roy Orbison. Family was important to Van. He was a devoted and attentive son to his parents, and cared for them both in their final stages of life. He was particularly fond of spending time with his nephew, Jared, who he loved dearly. Above all, his greatest joy was his Heavenly Father and his relationship with Christ Jesus. He is now at home in His glory.
Van was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lee Watson, and a sister, Tama Lee, who died shortly after birth.
Van was survived briefly by his mother, Betty, who passed just days after his own death. He is now survived by his brother, Lee Jay Watson and wife, Lauren; his nephew, Jared Watson; a step nephew and niece, Josiah and Isabella Kirby; an aunt, an uncle, and several cousins.
A joint memorial service for Van and his mother, Betty, will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon on June 12, 2023 at 12 noon with visitation beginning at 11:00. Interment will follow at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cure SMA at www.curesma.org.
