Peggy Jean Merritt, 66 of here passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
She was born on July 11, 1950 to the late Louis W. and Esther Mae Smith Courts. Peggy was an administrative assistant for Health South for 19 years and worked for many years at Mercantile/PNC bank. She served as chairman, co-chair and team captain for the Somerset County Relay for life and was well loved by all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her former husband and best friend, Alfred Merritt of Princess Anne, a brother, Donald and his wife Belva Courts of Jacksonville, Fla., step-daughters Sheila Smith (Shawn) of Chesapeake, Va., Heather Milligan (Steven), and Cristi Witt (Buddy) of Princess Anne, step grandchildren, Zack Smith, Jacob Milligan, and Cooper and Sawyer Witt. She also leaves behind her 6 cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother David Courts and a sister, Jeanette Courts.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 8, 2017 at Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne where friends may call from 12-2 P.M. Reverend Tim Shawyer will officiate. A Celebration of Life will also be hosted by Health South, 220 Tilghman Rd., Salisbury, Md. on Wednesday evening from 7-9 P.M.
