Peggy Townsend Harshman, 84 of here died on Saturday, March 22, 2014 . Born on Feb. 3, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Marion L. Townsend, Sr. and Georgia Nutter Townsend. Her late husband was James G. Harshman, Sr. After graduation from Wicomico Senior High School in 1947, Mrs. Harshman had worked as a bookkeeper and seamstress and had retired from Chesapeake Utilities. She attended Washington United Methodist Church in Shad Point and had volunteered at Peninsula Regional Medical Center for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, growing her beautiful flowers and helping others.
She was a member of Salisbury Elks Lodge ladies Auxilary 817 for over 30 years and was a member of the Md. Chapter of Verizon Telephone Pioneers.
She is survived by two children, James G. Harshman, Jr. of Salisbury and Susan Lowe and her husband Wayne Lowe of Hebron. Three grandchildren, David Lowe and his wife, Jenny of Florida, Adam Lowe and his wife Nicole of New Jersey and Angela Lowe of Hebron, a sister, Jane Pusey of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews.
Late brothers and sisters were Marion Townsend, Jr, Joseph Townsend, Jack Townsend, Juanita Lewis and Alan Townsend.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday March 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Washington United Methodist Cemetery at Shad Point. The Rev. Bonita Harris will officiate.
