Obituary




Salisbury—Pauline "Penny" Matthews 89, of Salisbury and formerly of Kingston, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. Born May 30, 1922 in Fall River, Massachusetts she was the daughter of the late Florence and Harold Conboy.
"Penny" was a 1939 graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass. She was a charter member of the ladies Auxiliary of the Crisfield Elks Lodge 1044, Past President of the Princess Anne Lioness Club, Past President of the Senior Board of Mc Cready Memorial Hospital. Past president of the Cancer Society of Somerset Co., and a member of the Happy Timers of Salisbury. Her numerous hobbies included bowling, bridge, traveling and especially fishing.
Her Survivors include five children, Stanley Matthews, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Salisbury, Ronald F. Matthews of Onancock, Va., Sandra Marshall and her husband Larry, of Crisfield, Bonnie Clayton and her husband Paul of Wilmington, N.C., Robin Matthews and his wife Pam of Salisbury, Md. Seven grandchildren, Ronald F. Matthews, Jr. and his wife Tammy, Scott Matthews and his wife Beth, Todd Matthews and his wife Andie, Lori Mrohs and her husband Mike, Jeffery Marshall, and David and Michelle Clayton. Nine great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Miller and husband Matt, Justin Matthews, Victoria Kelly, Taylor Clayton, Coby Clayton, Abby and Caroline Matthews, Amanda and Connor Mrohs. One sister Ellen Mockas and her husband Paul, One brother Ted Gross and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Stanley M. Matthews, Sr., a sister Margaret "Peggy" Baker, a daughter in-law Rochelle Matthews and a great granddaughter, Caroline Mrohs.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 Pm. at the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Beechwood Cemetery. In Princess Anne.
A special thanks to all the staff members at the Wicomico Nursing Home for their exceptional care over the past 2 1/2 years. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at PO.
