IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela J.
Taylor
December 5, 2020
Pamela Jean Taylor was born November 11, 1948 in New Bern, N.C. Her earthly life ended on Dec. 5, 2020 at Wicomico Nursing Home. Pam was the second child of Graham Taylor, Sr. and Doris Esther Simms Taylor. She moved with her parents and siblings to Mount Vernon, MD at 2 years of age. She graduated from Washington High School and upon graduation began a career as a sales associate at McCrory's in the Salisbury Mall. She liked her job and her coworkers. When the business closed 25 years later, she went to work as a fabric/sewing department sales associate and smiling door greeter at Walmart. She retired from Walmart in 2003 to help care for her mother. She was dependable and well-liked by her coworkers in both positions she held.
Pam was predeceased by her mother on August 16, 2004, her father on September 29, 2011 and her brother, Graham Taylor, Jr. in February 1991. She is survived by sister, Sharon Fitzgerald (Don), nieces Jennifer Fitzgerald (Mark Coulbourne) and Kimberly Fitzgerald, and great niece Taylor Peacock (Kyle). Also surviving are much loved cousins Clark Simms, III (Cheryl), Dottie Redington (Marty) and Alison Walt (David) and their children, as well as numerous cousins in NC and VA. Her maternal grandparents were Clark and Dorothy Bounds Simms, deceased, and her paternal grandparents were James Wallace and Mary Edith Taylor, also deceased.
Pam was well known for her beautiful smile, which she shared freely with everyone, as well as for her generous and kind nature. She attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, MD from the age of 4 years until poor health prevented her regular attendance in recent years. For most of her adult life she was a Sunday School teacher of the children of the nursery class. She loved being known as "Miss Pam" to the wonderful families of Asbury Church. She was also well known for her many beautiful hats which she wore to church every week. She enjoyed and was skilled at needle work, gifting her family with afghans, pillows and other heirlooms into which she poured hours of love and handiwork. She loved taking photos of her family and her church on the hill in Mount Vernon. She especially enjoyed catching her family unaware in Candid Camera photos. She never went anywhere without her camera. Pam liked to bake, especially cakes and cookies. She made birthday cakes for her nieces and her great niece every year until they were grown. Pam spent many years as a teenager with her 4-H club. She entered numerous items in the Somerset County Fair every year and won many ribbons which she carefully saved in her scrapbooks. Pam left her family with many photo albums which provide our family with a pictorial family history, complete with names, dates, location and occasion.
Pam had several health issues in later life, yet she never complained. She adapted to each challenge with grace and grit. The most significant obstacle was developing dementia and mobility impairment. This eventually led to her entering long term care residency at Wicomico Nursing Home. She adjusted easily to this life change and soon became a beloved resident of the staff. She was lovingly cared for at the facility for 6 ½ years. She was treated with dignity, respect, compassion, warmth and affection. Her family owes the staff at Wicomico Nursing Home a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.
A graveside service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, MD on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 1 PM. Due to the challenges posed by Covid 19 and in order to protect everyone the family asks that you wear your masks and practice social distancing. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hinman Funeral Home, Princess Anne, MD. Officiating will be Rev. Harry Weir of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury, MD.
In lieu of flowers her family requests donations to Asbury United Methodist Church, c/o Marlene McIntyre, 13263 Mount Vernon Road, Princess Anne, MD 21853 or to Wicomico Nursing Home, 900 Booth Street, PO Box 2378, Salisbury, MD 21802-2378.
