Obituary

Milbourne Lee Whitt, age 95, of Salisbury and formerly of Princess Anne, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Manokin Manor.

He was born on April 20, 1930 in Fishing Island to Herold and Virginia Dashiell Whitt.

Milbourne was a graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne and was a 12-year US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a salesman for an outdoor advertising company and acquired his pilots license while working with them.

He was a musician, affectionately known as "Stringbean", and locally played with Bill Godfrey and The String Kings around the Shore. He was an avid guitar player and a big fan of Merle Travis and his "thumb-picking" style of playing guitar. He loved all things western: movies, music, and especially visiting the old western towns.

He is survived by a sister, Darlene Smack and husband Sidney; and a niece, Tina Gillespie and husband Skip. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Merle L. Whitt.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11 AM at Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne. Rev. Stephen S. Willing will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org; or Tunnels to Towers Foundation, www.dogood.t2t.org
