Chance – Mary Frances Whitelock, 82 of here passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Fran was born on December 6, 1938, the daughter of Virginia Mumford and Carl Ratcliffe. She graduated from Wicomico High School and earned her Master's Degree in Education from Salisbury State.
Fran's passion and gift was teaching. Serving 31 years as a high school math teacher, finishing her career at Wor-Wic Tech.
Patriotic all her life, she was a strong advocate for community service. Quick to volunteer, Fran held many different offices in multiple organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 94, Deal Island Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Tony Tank Post Degree of Pocohantas Tribe 149 and the Retired Teachers Association.
As a loyal lifetime O's fan, the game was always on, unless her great grandson Evan with whom she shared a special relationship with was playing ball. Fran enjoyed playing cards with her son and volleyball with friends and family in her pool. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by her husband Bruce Whitelock of Chance, three children, William Hastings of Delmar, Terri( Rick) Johnstone of Wenona, and Patte Dryden of Chance. Her eldest grandson Brad Dryden was always by her side. Fran also has five more grandchildren, Henry Hastings, Jessica Urbantke, Caitlyn Johnstone, Chelsea Kelly and Ian Johnstone, and ten great grandchildren. Fran was always very proud of her family.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Leslie Elliott, Johnny Ratcliffe, Sandra Smith, and Carl Ratcliffe, Jr. and her first husband, Sonny Hastings.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 from 6-8:00 P.M. at Hinman Funeral Home, P.A. in Princess Anne, MD. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Dave Webster will officiate. Interment will follow in Rock Creek Cemetery, Chance, MD.
