IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary “Peanut”
Pietroski
March 11, 2021
Mt. Vernon-We are with saddened hearts to announce the passing of Mary "Peanut" Pietroski (93), who has embarked on her journey to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 11, 2021. Loved by many and never to be forgotten, she is now re-united with her husband, Joseph "Pete" Pietroski, her daughter and son in law, Linda and Walton Benton, her two brothers, Clifton "Big Joe" Jones and Robert "Bobby" Jones and two of her nephews Gilbert "Gil" Jones and Kevin "Doozie Bob" Jones as well as with all her other friends and family that have gone on before her.
Mary affectionally known as "Peanut" was born, raised and resided in Mt. Vernon, Maryland. Born on November 7, 1927 to Clifton "Pop" and Ruth "Ba" Jones. Mary grew up during the Great Depression Era, where she learned to love and value the simple things in life. She was faithful in the Lord and loved her family. Her door was open to anyone. Everyone was welcomed and once you entered you would feel at home. Anyone that knew Peanut, knew that she spoke her mind, was funny and straight forward. While she was able, Peanut loved crafting, knitting, bowling, fishing, camping, traveling, swimming, gardening, contract, being on her computer, and playing a variety of games including Pogo. Peanut enjoyed sharing meals and celebrating with family and friends. She loved to have visitors and cherished her interactions whether it be with family and friends in the area or family traveling great distances to spend time with her. She valued her employment experiences and would talk of the days when she picked strawberries, worked in the cannery, and in the hospital lab. She shared fond memories of working for various doctors in the area (Christianson, Dunn & Whaley) to later being one of the first cafeteria workers at Mt. Vernon Elementary to later retiring from the Washington High School cafeteria. Peanut was a long-time member of the Mt. Vernon Asbury United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Women's Auxiliary. Peanut not only would care for her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but she also was a past, Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher and taught Vacation Bible School for many years. Peanut touched many lives and crossed many paths. She may be gone from this earthly home but will be forever in our hearts and in the hearts of those that knew and loved her.
Mary leaves behind her sons, Joseph "Joey" (Karen, "Big Karen") and Jerry "Stick" (Debbie) Pietroski. Her grandchildren Lisa (Brian) Fortune, Karen White, Walton "Waltie" (Kim) Benton Jr, Jerry (Katy) Pietroski, Joseph "Jo Jo" Pietroski, Theresa Spicer, James "Jamie" (Gina) Clark, David (Cindi) Pietroski, and Tammy Pietroski. Affectionally known as Great Nanny, she leaves behind her great grandchildren, Jessica Pittman, Brooke Benton, Hannah Spicer, Michael Clark, Fiona Pietroski, Kelly Payne, Chad White, Colton Benton, Olivia White, Sarah Radd, Joanna Pietroski, Libby Pietroski, Brystal Benton, Luke Pietroski and Maverick Pietroski. There are many other extended family and friends that are not mentioned but know that she loved, cared deeply, and valued each one of you very much.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, MD at 1 pm on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service with graveside to follow. Pastor Alyssa Nantt and Randy Schrock presiding over the service.
