Mary Shrieves Murphey, 95, of Princess Anne passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 of natural causes. Mrs. Murphey was born on September 15, 1916 in Mount Vernon, the daughter of the late J. Leonard and Daisy Furniss Shrieves. Mrs. Murphey was the Proprietor of the Washington Hotel in Princess Anne for over 50 years. She was a Member of Antioch United Methodist Church, The former Manokin Chapter 109 Order of the Eastern Star in Princess Anne, The Somerset Business and Professional Women, Upper Somerset AARP, as well as the former Friendship Class at Antioch. She was an avid Bridge player and a fan of Oriole Baseball and College Basketball.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Murphey in 1981, and brothers J. Brady Shrieves and Leonard Shrieves.
Mrs. Murphey is survived by her daughter, Patricia Johnson, son in law, Clarence, son, Robert Murphey, and daughter in law Cheryl of Princess Anne. She leaves five grandchildren, Becky Larkin (Mike), Susan Johnson, Patrick Johnson (Jennifer), Jason and Colleen Murphey. She was the adored Great Grandmother of five great-grandchildren, Sydney and Morgan Larkin, and Emma, Alyssa, and Reed Johnson, along with three nephews, John, Robert, and Herbert Shrieves.
The family will recieve guests at the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, on Friday March 16 at 12:00 PM. with the service to follow at !:00. Interment will follow in the Manokin Presbyterian Cemetery in Princess Anne. Rev. Olivia Castango will officiate.
