Martha Louise Stansel Bevan, age 91, of Salisbury, MD formerly of Princess Anne, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2015, with her loving children by her side at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD.
Martha was born October 18, 1924 in Hartford City, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Stansel and Mamie King Stansel.
She was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and a band majorette. She then graduated from West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg. Martha worked for Monongahela West Penn Public Service Company in Clarksburg for several years until she married Richard A. Bevan in 1948.
As a member of Manokin Presbyterian Church since 1952, Martha served as Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session, Sunday school teacher and was a former President and Circle Leader of the Women's Association.
Martha was a member and past President of the Shoreland Club of Princess Anne, MD. She was also a member of the Volunteer Plus at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD for 12 years and was awarded a certificate of appreciation in recognition of 1500 hours of outstanding service.
She was an avid golfer and a charter member of Nassanwango Country Club in Snow Hill, MD and former member of the Elks Golf Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Richard A. Bevan; her siblings, Margaret Marie Wilkinson (twin sister), Thomas J. Stansel, Jr, Robert H. Stansel, Susie May and Thomas Lee Stansel and her brothers-in-law, Chester Leroy Leuliette and Wade Gainer.
Martha is survived by her four children, Beverly Ann Bevan and her husband, Lawrence Bayley of Crownsville, MD, Judith Kae Bevan of Boone, NC, and her partner, Margaret Gunn, Richard Arnold Bevan, Jr and his Fiancée Lisa Pauley of Frankford, DE and Thomas David Bevan and his wife Carole Wilson Bevan of Westover, MD; two sisters, Ruth E. Gainer of Bridgeport, WV and Mary Elizabeth Leuliette of Novi, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Martha was a loving, nurturing mother, and her kind and caring ways will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held for Martha on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Manokin Presbyterian Church in Princess Anne, MD, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. There will be a private family graveside service.
