IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lester E.
Benson
December 9, 2012
Lester Edward Benson, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 9, 2012 after a long series of illnesses. Lester was born on January 12, 1928 to Stanley F. and Helen Propst Benson at home in Princess Anne. He graduated from Washington High School in Princess Anne, class of (44).
After graduation he began farming and continued until he retired. Besides his wife Joyce, Lester is survived by a son, Thomas and his friend Linda of Westover and a daughter, Karen, of Reisterstown. He leaves a brother, Robert and wife, Addie Lou of Salisbury; a sister in law, Janet Neal of East New Market; five nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.
He married Joyce Moore of Centreville, MD in July 1958 and they have resided at the same residence for the past 54 years. Lester was an active member of Antioch United Methodist Church for over 75 years. He was a 4-H member and All Star and enjoyed square dancing. He was a past member of Somerset Ruritan and an active member of the Bay Country Rose Society. Lester's love of raising flowers, particularly roses has many remembering him as "The Rose Man". Carrying flowers to offices, businesses, and people; young and old, has given him great pleasure over the years. He also loved to share the fruits of his garden. Another part ofthis ministry was getting others interested in gardening, often supplying the plants, the knowledge and the equipment to begin. Perhaps his spirit will live on in their gardens. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 12 at Hinman Funeral Home, Princess Anne and on Thursday from noon to 1 with services to follow at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Mark Thomas will officiate. Burial will be at Beechwood Cemetery.in Princess Anne Donations may be made to Seton Center, Catholic Charities, PO Box 408 Princess Anne, MD 21853 or to Antioch United Methodist Church at PO Box 297, Princess Anne, MD 21853
