RUMBLEY – Lena Gertrude Parks, 93, of Rumbley, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury surrounded by her family. Born on September 23, 1926 in Crisfield, she was the daughter of the late Lena and Delaney Meredith.
She was a life-long member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fairmount and member of the United Methodist Women, serving as president in multiple years. She also was a member of the Fairmount Quilters Club and the Fairmount Cemetery Committee. She and her husband operated a seafood business in Rumbley for 30 years.
She loved spending time with her family celebrating milestones, holidays and special occasions as well as enjoying the simple aspects of family life on the Eastern Shore. Many wonderful memories were made in her home around family meals and special family traditions.
Gertrude is survived by her husband of 47 years, Nevitt Parks of Rumbley; two daughters, Carolyn Olsen (Roger) of Westover, Diane Lusk (Frank) of Rumbley and one son Donald Meredith. She leaves behind four granddaughters, Sheri Olsen of Westover, Christa Taylor (Wade) of Pocomoke, Wendy Sturgis (Scott) of Mt. Vernon and Kelly Logan (Jeff) of Princess Anne. Additionally, she is survived by great grandchildren, Justin Kelly (Alexa), Ashley Kelly (Kevin), Ethan Taylor, Meredith Taylor, Zachary Sturgis and Natalie Sturgis and two great great grandchildren Karson David Lane and Paisley Grace Kelly.
She was also preceded in death by brothers William "Bill" Meredith and Robert "Bob" Meredith; sisters Esther French and Ann Ford; and husband Carroll Meredith.
She will be laid to rest in a private family service at the Fairmount Cemetery in Fairmount, MD.
