Larry T. Barnes, 76, of Westover, MD and Biloxi, MS, and formerly of Emmitsburg, MD and Long Neck, DE passed away July 1, 2026, after a short illness. He was the husband of Paula C. Compton.
Born August 7, 1949, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Cletus Eugene Barnes Sr. and Charlotte Clem Barnes of Libertytown, MD. He was preceded in death by his sister Geneva B. Delphey, his brother Walter E. Barnes, his brother Cletus E. Barnes, Jr, and his sister Ruth Ann Vaughn.
Larry was a graduate of Linganore High School and Shepherdstown University, where he received his BS in Business. He was a retired Vice President of Finance & Operations of Routzahn & Sons Furniture in Frederick, MD where he was employed for over 35 years.
Larry enjoyed hunting, woodworking and fishing. In his younger years he was an avid hunter, often hunting deer in the nearby mountains of Emmitsburg and traveling to Canada with his sister Geneva and her husband Joe to hunt bear. He was also a long-time member of the Frederick Noon Sertoma Club. He also served on the legislative committee at the Maryland Retailers Association. He was a founder of the Frederick Woodturning Club and enjoyed making and selling many items in his shop in Emmitsburg. In his later years, he discovered the love of fishing and boating. He would faithfully fish every weekend in Long Neck Delaware with “The Boys”. He also came to love his adopted hometown of Biloxi, MS, where he and Paula enjoyed fishing, the warm weather, Mardi Gras parades and hosting friends and family.
Larry is survived by his wife Paula, his stepsons John Compton and Michael Compton (Laura), step grandchildren Cohen, Brensin, Gianni, Paige and Callan, Sister-in-Law Geraldine Barnes, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Pepper.
There will be no funeral or memorial service, but A Celebration of Life will be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairmount Volunteer Fire Company, 27407 Fairmount Rd, Westover, MD 21871.
