Princess Anne - Joyce Hamner Simpson, 80, of Princess Anne, MD passed away on Monday June 12, 2023, at Stansell House in Ocean Pines, Md. Born in Lynchburg, VA on August 18, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Ray Hamner and Evelyn Hamner Kuykendall.
Joyce was a graduate of Frostburg State College. She spent her career as a primary school teacher in the Somerset County School system. She retired after 28 years of service.
She loved the Lord Jesus and served Him as an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Salisbury, MD. Previously, Joyce served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, deacon and choir member for many years at Allen Memorial Baptist Church.
Joyce's greatest joy was being a grandmother, mother and loving wife.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Susan DeHart and granddaughter Kathryn Parrott.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles "Corky" Simpson, daughter Jill Parrott and husband Ed of Salisbury, Md, son Christopher "Kit" Simpson and wife Anne-Marie of Raleigh, NC, grandchildren Aaron Parrott, Nathan Parrott, Evan Parrott, Kate Simpson, Kiley Simpson and Peyton Parrott. She is also survived by her sisters Carolyn Dillow (Chuck) of Cumberland, MD and Candy Todd (Randy) of Birmingham, AL, sister n-law Judy Meinhardt of Towson, MD, brother n-law Lynn DeHart of Cumberland, MD and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday June 17th, 2023 at Immanuel Baptist Church 1514 Old Ocean City Rd, Salisbury, MD 21804. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Pastor Andrew Morgan will officiate. After the Memorial Service there will be a fellowship dinner at the church social hall and all are welcome.
