Pocomoke City – Joseph W. "Wayne" Ashley, age 77, of Pocomoke City, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Tidal Health in Salisbury, MD.
Wayne was born in Crisfield, MD and was the son of the late Joseph D. and Helen T. Ashley of Pocomoke City. Wayne was the husband of the late Janya Ashley of Pocomoke City. Wayne met Janya and married September 7, 1971 and were married 51 years before she passed away last year on March 1, 2023.
Wayne graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1966 and attended Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN. Following college, Wayne enlisted in in the Air Force in February 1968 serving during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Thailand at the Korat Air Force Base as a heavy construction equipment mechanic before being discharged July 1975. Upon returning to Pocomoke, he worked as a mechanic and later owned and operated his business, Ashley's Trailer Repair until retirement.
Following retirement Wayne and his beloved wife Janya enjoyed time together going camping, making trips to Lancaster, PA and riding his motorcycle.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Sandra Faye Benson and family in East Bend, NC along with three sisters, Joanmarie Creasy (Clinton) of Snow Hill, MD, Linda Lewis of Ocean City, MD, and Gale A. Davis (Jay) of Berlin, brother Dale Ashley (Carminda) of Pocomoke City, MD, two sisters-in-law, Tida and Boom, brother-in-law, Sid Wartanawongpod, of Las Vegas, NV, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wayne was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Larry L. Lewis of Ocean City, MD.
A Celebration of Life for Wayne will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the American Legion Post #94, 30782 West Post Office Rd. Princess Anne, MD from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wayne may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. The family appreciates and "Thanks You" by honoring Wayne in this way.
