John Edward Renois, 72, of Marion Station, Md., died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home in Marion.
Born on July 6, 1937 in Queens, New York, he was a son of the late Francis H. Renois and Anna T. Renois.
John and his wife Ann were married October 14, 1961 in New York City. They resided in Glen Ridge, New Jersey for 33 years where they raised 3 children, Barbara Casey married to Richard Casey of Cliffwood Beach, NJ, Catherine D'Atilio married to Michael D'Atilio of Roselle Park, NJ and Francis W. Renois married to Mary Pat Renois of Glen Ridge, NJ. They have ten grandchildren, Nicole, D'Atilio, Anne Marie, Daniel, Kelly, John, Michael and Francis Renois, Kathleen, Ryan and Angelina Casey.
John grew up in New York City where he was an ironworker with Local # 580 for 35 years. He worked on almost all of the skyscrapers in New York City that were erected in the 60's, 70's and 80's. That included the two towers of the World Trade Center where he worked for 6 years. He was a member of the New Jersey National Guard for 18 years. He celebrated being a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus in 2009. He was also a member of the Crisfield Elks #1044 where he was a past five year trustee.
On retiring, he and his wife Ann moved to Marion Station where they made their home looking out on the Big Annemessex River enjoying the beautiful sunset, crabbing and fishing. A friend convinced John that he should enter his pickles in the Somerset County Fair where he received many blue ribbons. This began his second career as the "Pickle Man". He greatly enjoyed making all kinds of pickles and relishes especially "Kosher Dills"and "Pickled Beets".
Besides his wife and children he is survived by his brother, Paul Renois and his wife Rosemary Renois of Henderson, NV, his Aunt Irene Blanda of Hibbs, PA and many nieces and nephews. He was a friend to many and will be missed by all.
A memorial mass will be held Thursday at 11 am at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Westover. Friends may call at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne Wednesday evening from 6 to 8pm where prayers will be said at 7:30. Father William Porter will be officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
