John L. Ent, 84, of Princess Anne died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Princess Anne on June 11, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph Ent and Libby Kirwin Ent.
John was a lifelong farmer who took pride in his machinery. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In 1970 John was Conservation Farmer of the Year and in 1995 he was the recipient of the Fulton Green Memorial Award. He was voted Somerset's Most Beautiful Person and was elected in the Fire Company Hall of Fame, both in 2004. In 2006, John was Somerset's Outstanding Citizen. He was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Princess Anne. Volunteering many hours, his memberships include Manokin Lodge #106, life member of Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Co., life member of Princess Anne Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, life member of Crisfield Elks, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Salisbury Scottish Rite, Baltimore Scottish Rite, Boumi Shrine Temple, Ambassadors of Boumi, Ocean City Shrine Club, Eastern Shore Shrine Club and the Virginia Shrine Club. John had also served as past-president of the Somerset County Civic Center Board.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emily Boston Ent of Princess Anne; a son, John Ent, Jr. of Princess Anne; three grandchildren, Erin Daniels and husband Shane, Lane Mister and husband J.R. and Stephen K. Ent; two great-grandchildren, Ava Daniels and Katelynn Fisher-Ent. ; three sisters, Tealie Watson and Anna Mae Smith, both of Salisbury and Pauline Ent Nichols of Allen; brother-in-law, Richard Boston and wife Janet of Westover and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, James Ent, Porter Ent and Charles "Dizzy" Ent and two sisters, Sarah E. Revelle and Josephine Tingle.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am at Antioch United Methodist Church in Princess Anne with Rev. James Doran officiating. . Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm at Hinman Funeral Home where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30pm. Interment will be held in St. Andrews Episcopal Cemetery in Princess Anne located behind the Manokin Presbyterian Church.
