Joanne Richards, 74, returned to her heavenly home on September 22, 2023 after a valiant battle with brain cancer. Joanne was born in Merced, CA on August 26, 1949 to the (late) Joseph Nothey and Carrie Brown.

She was immersed in the Christian community as a member of the Kent Island United Methodist Church. Outside of her church life, Joanne enjoyed music, gardening, cooking, and utilizing her God-given talent in baking beautiful cakes for special occasions. Ultimately, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Joanne was a generous and giving woman at heart. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator (1 Thess 4:13). She is survived by her two children: daughter Eve Mosca and son Adam Filbert (wife Andrea); three grandchildren Ashley, Kimberly, and ElsaBeth; and three great-grandchildren Isaiah, Hadassah, and Troy, whom she adored dearly.

Joanne is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Richards; three brothers Glen Whittington, Roy Whittington, and Arthur Whittington; and one sister, Ruth Doughty.

As we mourn her loss, it is our hope to remember: "A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth" (Ecc. 7:1). Psalm 116:15 also gives us pause to celebrate her both in her life and in death: "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints."

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hinman Funeral home to cover funeral expenses.
