Deal Island - Joan Avon Hipkiss, 83, passed away at home on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
Born in Gulfport, MS on February 23, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Celine (D'Ladiner) Pierce.
Joan was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is now reunited with her husband, Wilfred E. Hipkiss who passed away in 2014 after 60 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona and was an excellent artist and musician.
She is survived by her children, Michael Dean Hipkiss and his wife, Susan Kleese of Deal Island, Catherine Avon Macartney of Overland Park, KS, and William Eugene Hipkiss of Willow Grove, PA, grandchildren Effy Winter, Kyle Kleese, Jennifer Schiebe, (Michael), Benjamin and Logan Hipkiss, great grandson Jefferson Schiebe and special daughter-in-law Carrie Ellen Hipkiss.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona with a visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. David Webster will officiate.
