Obituary

Jerldean 'Jeri' W. Horner, 87, went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 19, 2018. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Coastal Hospice by the Lake at 11:59 p.m. Born in Akron, Ohio, on May 7, 1930, she was the beloved wife of Vaughn B. Horner, Sr., a lifelong resident of Maryland's Eastern Shore who passed away in 2004.
A life well-lived, Jeri leaves behind to mourn a wonderful mother two children, Vaughn, Jr., and Denise Anne, and a daughter-in-law, Carol (nee Dashiell), all of Salisbury, plus numerous nieces and nephews, several dogs and a hamster (her 'grandchildren'). Jeri served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a recruiter in Salisbury where she met the future love of her life, Vaughn, Sr., who together with her started a household in Mt. Vernon on the "Sand Hill," as she always called it, in 1953. She was employed as a finance specialist for the Wicomico County Health Department until retirement, and was always one of the kindest of office workers, making many great friends.
Jeri's gracious, outgoing nature, warm smile and beautiful hazel eyes, along with her kindness to others will long be remembered. Her favorite song was "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, watching TV, and talking with all her visitors, including the mailman, Jasper. She made a home with her daughter, Denise, for over ten years. Denise knew how to cook and dinner with all the fixins' was a special time for them. Denise will especially miss the talks, ice cream drives, and compliments on each new blouse or hairdo the two shared. Mother's fondest hope was that her children and everyone she knew was happy and doing well.
A graveside service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mt. Vernon (the church on the hill), on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. All who knew Jeri and loved her as much as we have are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Jeri's memory to the Asbury Methodist Church, 26556 Mt. Vernon Rd., Princess Anne, Md., 21853.
