IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeanette Richards
Catlin
June 7, 2015
Jeanette Richards Catlin, 89 of Westover died on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Westover, she was a daughter of the late Jennings and Bernice Layfield Richards. Her late Husband was Luther Francis Catlin who died in 1981. Mrs. Catlin was a retired Elementary School Teacher and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Princess Anne, the Maryland Retired Teachers Association, and Town and Country Homemakers.
She is survived by two children, Richard L. Catlin of Salisbury and Janet Catlin McIntyre and her husband Robert ("Mac") of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Blair Catlin Brown and her husband Mark of Salisbury, Michael Catlin Griffith of Seattle, Washington and Elizabeth Ayres Griffith of Houston, Texas; one great-grandchild, Gus Catlin Brown; and a niece, Lynne Bratten. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a late sister, Joyce Richards Pollitt, and a late step-granddaughter, Grace Suzanne McIntyre.
After graduation from Maryland State Teachers College (now Salisbury University), she began her thirty-five year career as a second grade teacher, educating hundreds of children, almost all of whom she could remember by name to the very end of her life. Following a brief assignment in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Baltimore, she returned to her native Somerset County, teaching first at Fairmount Academy before moving to Princess Anne Elementary. After several years, a move seemed in the best interests of her two young children and she spent the remainder of her long and rewarding career teaching in Crisfield, until her retirement in 1980. Unwilling to completely leave her chosen profession, she continued to work as a substitute teacher for another ten years.
A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 12:00 P.M. at the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne where friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00. The Rev. Mark Thomas will officiate. Interment will be in Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne.
Contributions may be made to Antioch United Methodist Church (Children's Programs and Missions), P.O. Box 297, Princess Anne, MD 21853, or to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802
