James John Pletcher III, 58, of Mooresville, NC, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012, in Gordon Hospice House, Statesville, NC, after a long illness. Born May 1,1953 in Philadelphia, PA., he was the son of the late James John Jr. and Elsie Janet West Pletcher, and grandson of the late James John Sr., and Marie Elizabeth MacKubbin Pletcher of Lafayette Hills, PA. and Henry Herbert and Elsie M. Wetherill West of Allentown, NJ.
Mr. Pletcher was a 1971 graduate of Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, Plymouth Meeting, PA.,and attended Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA. Mr. Pletcher's lifelong work was in the automotive industry, first involved with his grandfather's dealership, Pletcher Ford, of Germantown, PA.and lastly with BMW of North America, Inc., Woodcliff Lake, NJ. and BMW AG, Munich, Germany.
His passion for Motor Racing began with his father, who built and sponsored three quarter midgets, and were raced by his two sons and daughter, which led to a lifelong love of Nascar Racing.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 29 years, Nancy Bailey Pletcher, formerly of Salisbury, Md., two sons, Ronald L. Hayward, Jr. and wife, Kristina of Charlotte, NC., James J. Toth and wife, Jennifer of Plymouth Meeting, PA., one daughter, Jennifer Kay Toth Candee and husband, Matt of New Market, MD.,
three grandsons, Dylan Michael and Christopher James Hayward of Charlotte, NC. and James John Toth, Jr. of Plymouth Meeting, PA. He is also survived by a brother, Jay Charles Pletcher and wife, Deborah of Grand Island, NY., and one sister, Janet Marie "Missy" Pletcher of Elkton, Md. and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 5th at 2:00 PM. in the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Md. where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, in Mt. Vernon. Rev. William Kniceley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer society at PO. Box 163, Salisbury, MD. 21803-0163, or to any local food bank in your community.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the medical staff of Gordon Hospice House, Statesville, NC., for the tender care given to their beloved family member in his final days.
