Salisbury - Ira Winfred Ashley (Wimp), age 83 passed away peacefully on Friday 8/18/2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Wimp was born on 9/4/1939 in Westover, son of the late Ira Fulton Ashley and Minnie Hartsoe Ashley.
He served in the Army and Army reserves for 7 years combined, owned and operated B.W. Donohoe Furniture in Princess Anne for 42 years, active in Antioch Church, Manokin Masonic Lodge #106, Wicomico Yacht Club as Secretary and Commodore (2000), Little League, 4-H, Somerset Tractor Pulling Association, Salisbury Moose Lodge 654, Princess Anne Ruritan Club, Lions Club and the Princess Anne American Legion.
Wimp is survived by his wife Nancy Donohoe Ashley of 62 years, sons Brant Fulton Ashley (Leisley), Patrick Winfred Ashley (DeNiece), Jeffrey Donohoe Ashley (Kimberly) and 7 grandchildren and his constant companion "Peanut", who was his 12-year-old Dachshund.
Wimp was the youngest of 11 siblings who all preceded him in death. Lillard Emit, Roy Smith, Millard Frank, Ray Allen, Margaret Graybeal, Joseph Datt, Emily Abbott, Minnie Cowgill, Pauling Beauchamp, Claude Elmer.
He loved boating, flying his plane, snow skiing, traveling, being with his family, and his beloved dog.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne on September 1,2023 at 2pm followed by a service at 3 and a gathering for food and fellowship immediately following in Antioch Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to Manokin Masonic Lodge #106.
