Obituary

Our beloved Hattie H. Miller passed away peacefully at Tawes Nursing Home on September 16, 2021, less than two weeks shy of her 98th birthday.
Hattie was born in Rumbley, MD on September 28, 1923, one of eleven children of Aubrey and Ida Meredith Holland. She is survived by her son Michael Miller and his wife Mary of Princess Anne, sister Hazel Kroth of Topeka, KS, sister-in-law Anne Holland of Rumbley along with many nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. The family would like to thank special niece Ruth Tyler for her devoted care-giving and love for Hattie during Hattie's final years.
Hattie was predeceased by her parents, husband King B. Miller, Jr., her son King B. (Buster) Miller 111, sisters Catherine, Gertrude, Doris and brothers Dulaney, Roy (Buck), Thomas, Granville, Paul and Meredith (Murdock).
She was a resident of Princess Anne and active in her community and Antioch Methodist Church for over 75 years. During World War II, Hattie and her family briefly lived in Baltimore. Like many young women of the "Greatest Generation," she contributed to the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter" assembling airplanes at the Glen L. Martin Company. Hattie and King were married in Elkton, MD on July 24, 1943.
Upon their return to Princess Anne, Hattie joined King in the family business Kings Creek Canning Company. During her sons' early years, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, assisted with kindergarten and was known to many - relatives and non-relatives alike - as "Miss Hattie," "Aunt Hattie" and "Nana.".
She welcomed everyone into her home for delicious meals and warm hospitality. Hattie was an avid bridge player, antique collector and traveler. She retired from Somerset County Schools as a cafeteria worker.
Hattie was a dedicated 30 year volunteer for Coastal Hospice, visiting and sitting with people during their time of need. She was awarded the Frank H. Morris Humanitarian Award for her service by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore on November 3, 2006. She devoted her life to the service of others.
Donations in Hattie's memory may be made to Coastal Hospice or the Caring and Sharing Committee at Antioch Church in Princess Anne.
A celebration of Hattie's life will be held at the Antioch Church Fellowship Hall at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Interment will be private.
