IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregg Allan
Thomas
April 27, 1960 – December 11, 2025
Gregg Allan Thomas, 65, of Oriole, MD, was found on Thursday, December 11, 2025 after going missing on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Hollands Straits while working the water for oysters.
He was born April 27, 1960, to the late Jesse (Wicky) Thomas, Jr. and Jean (Hall) Thomas of Oriole, MD.
Gregg graduated from Washington High School in Princess Anne in 1978.
Gregg worked for Bountiful Ridge Nursery, Campbell Soup and Vlasic Pickle before starting with Eastern Correction Institute, ending a 30 year career with ECI as a Correctional Officer in March 2022.
He was a life-long waterman, working part-time and after retirement, working full-time on the water alongside his wife, harvesting crabs and oysters. He loved being on the water, either for working its bounty or for pleasure.
Gregg is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 21 years, Julie Shortall Thomas, a step-daughter, Jennifer Schlag (Chris), whom he never thought of her as anything other than his own, and two grandchildren whom he adored, Garrett C. Schlag and Olivia G. Schlag; his Aunt Ann Hornsby and Uncle Bobby Hall (Lea) and Uncle Danny Webster.
He was a member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge, #654 and the American Legion in Princess Anne, Post #94.
Gregg loved to travel with his wife and treasured vacations shared with family and friends. He especially enjoyed yearly cruises and trips to Florida and North Carolina. Gregg embraced life wholeheartedly, taking every opportunity to enjoy it to the fullest. At home, nothing brought him more joy than welcoming friends and family to sit on the porch with him and Julie, drink in hand, sharing laughter and stories from years gone by.
A memorial service, officiated by Pastor David Webster, Sr., will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne where visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm with service to begin at 1 pm. A celebration of Gregg's life will follow the service at the American Legion, Post #94, in Princess Anne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Peter's Cemetery Fund, ℅ Judy Price, 28121 Venton Road, Princess Anne, MD 21853.
