Parsonsburg – Gladys Lorena Seaton, "Aunt Happy" passed away peacefully in her home with her loving family by her side on February 13, 2022.
She was born on June 3, 1925 in Princess Anne, MD to the late Emerson Theodore Dykes and Lorena Virgina Noel. She was preceded in death by her first husband James Thorp who passed away in 1981, Brothers Wallace, Herman & Robert, and Sisters, Virginia, Ruth, and Leila.
She was remarried in 1984 to Jack Seaton.
Gladys graduated from Washington High School in 1943. She was employed by the Somerset County Health Dept. as a secretary for Dr. Robert Johnson for over 35 years. She retired in 1978. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Powellville United Methodist Church, Powellville Ruritan Club since 1990 and Parsonsburg Ruritan Club where she served as Club Secretary. She enjoyed many hobbies, such as knitting, crocheting, gardening, flowering, reading, baking pies and cakes and woodworking and painting with her husband Jack.
In addition to her husband Jack, she is survived by her brother, Ted Dykes, many nieces and nephews whom she adored and gave her the name "Aunt Happy", special granddaughter Michelle Hadder and her husband Jerry, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, step children Cindy Elliott and John Seaton, as well as several cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Her family sends a special thank you to her caregivers, Jean Adams and Bonnie Seaton.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Powellville Cemetery on Mt. Hermon Rd. Pastor Paul Sherwood will officiate. A fellowship with food in remembrance of Gladys will be held after the service in the Powellville Fire Hall. Everyone is welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802, Powellville Fire Dept. or Powellville Ladies Auxiliary.
