Obituary

Princess Anne - Gary Cooper Webster, 74, of Princess Anne went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2024, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Deal Island he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Doris Marie Webster.

Gary, a devoted Marine Corps veteran joining the Marines November 1, 1969. His time on the U.S.S. America during 2 West Pack Tours and 1 Mediterranean tour showcased his commitment to duty and honor. Remembered for his top 10% achievement in his class at Paris Island and the respect he earned during his time in the service, Gary's legacy lives on through his honorable discharge on October 18, 1972. May his bravery and sacrifices never be forgotten.

Gary's life story is a testament to dedication, hard work, and love. After serving honorably, he embarked on a fulfilling journey with his beloved wife and best friend, Lyla (Lucy) Manning Webster, whom he married in 1977. Gary's career path was diverse, from being a self-employed waterman and working with Langerfeller (American Dredging local 25 of New Jersey), to dedicating 17.5 years of service at the Eastern Shore Correctional Institute before retiring.

Even in retirement, Gary and Lucy continued their entrepreneurial spirit by starting a live bait business, which took them on journeys from New York to New Jersey to deliver their products. Their dedication to their community was evident in their active participation at Immanuel Baptist Church in Salisbury, where they found guidance and support from Pastor Andrew Morgan and their church family.

Gary Webster was more than a man with a career; he was a beloved figure in the lives of many. As a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary touched countless hearts with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. His legacy lives on through the memories and love he shared with his family and community.

In addition to his beloved wife Lucy, Gary is also survived by his two daughters, Shirl (Rudy) Hancock (Blair and Jack, Bridget, Brooke) of Marion Station, MD and Jessica (George) Lemon (Makayla) of Mardela Springs, MD; sister Vicky (Lori, Kim) Holland. Also left to cherish his memories are his sister-in-law, Dana (Val and Brandi) Webster; brothers-in-law Michael Manning (Gail), Richard Manning (Rosa), David Manning (Christy) and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, father and mother-in-law, Jim and Shirley Manning, he was preceded in death by his brother Donald Webster.

Gary's last wishes were to extend a thank you to Pastor Paul Holland who he worked with for three years oystering. While working they talked about the Lord and Pastor Holland's next Sunday sermon.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 12 noon at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1514 Old Ocean City Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
