IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances Stout
Taylor
March 28, 2013
FRANCES COOPER STOUT TAYLOR PRINCESS ANNE - Frances Cooper Stout Taylor, 95, of Princess Anne, died on March 28, 2013 at Lakeside Assisted Living in Salisbury, Maryland. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 29 June 1917, the only daughter of John Wolfe and Beulah Cooper Stout. During the height of the Great Depression, the family re-Iocated from Philadelphia to Allen, Maryland. Mrs. Taylor spent her last two years of high school at Wicomico High School in Salisbury, graduating in 1935. She was class president and valedictorian of her graduating class. She won a scholarship to Western Maryland College in Westminster, Maryland, and graduated in June, 1939 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. She taught school in Ridgely, Maryland for a year after graduation. She and her husband of 72-years, Raymond Nelson Taylor, were married in April, 1940. Both she and her husband taught at Marion High School in Somerset County for many years. She taught sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) and was frequently visited by outside educators and complimented for her instructional techniques, the integration of her instruction with mathematics instruction and for the achievements of her students. She also taught art and music at Marion High School and directed various student choral groups. When schools were consolidated in Somerset County, she taught sciences at Washington High School in Princess Anne for several years until her retirement in 1973. After her retirement, she devoted herself to her lovely flower gardens on their small farm on Polks Road and to her many adopted dogs and cats, many dropped/abandoned on nearby country roads and rescued by her and her husband. She received the Humanitarian of the Year award from the Wicomico Humane Society in 1978 for her humane animal rescue efforts. They also adopted two mules, Ida Red and Suzy Q, who lived long lives with them. For many years she was very active in The Salisbury-Wicomico Art League and was a member of The Salisbury Choral Society. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, John Wolfe Stout, Jr.; and her husband, Raymond, who died in January, 2012. She is survived by their four children: Barbara Taylor Hall and her husband, Phil, of Fredericksburg, VA; John Michael Taylor and his wife, Pamela, of Princess Anne; David Allan Taylor and his wife Susan, of Eden; and Carl Raymond Taylor and his wife Beth, of Lawrenceville, GA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, 22 June, at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Friends may call beginning at 9: 15 o'clock. The Reverend Donald Rising, Pastor of Wicomico Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery in Allen, Maryland. As stated, she and her husband took in many stray dogs, cats and a couple of old mules during their time together and cared deeply for each pet. It is therefore fitting that in lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Mrs. Frances S. Taylor's name to The Humane Society of Somerset County, PO Box 493, Princess Anne, MD 21853; or to the Wicomico County Humane Society, Inc., 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD, 21801. The family would like to thank all of the folks at Lakeside Assisted Living at Mallard Landing in Salisbury for the outstanding care provided to our Mother during the last eighteen months of her life.
