Salisbury - Floyd Wilson Hancock, 89, of Salisbury, Maryland, formerly of Princess Anne, Maryland, passed away Monday November 28, 2022 at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. Born October 18, 1933 in Princess Anne, he was the son of Leland and Bertie Wessels Hancock. He was a 1951 graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne, and a member of the boys basketball team. In 1952, he married his wife of 70 years, Betty Hancock who sadly passed away on August 19, 2022. He served in the United States Army on active duty from 1954 to 1956 followed by 8 years of Army Reserve duty. In addition to his training as a medical technician, he received the Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals.
He worked as a butcher in his brother's grocery store and as a delivery truck driver/salesman, retiring from Continental Baking Company in 1994. In his later years, he enjoyed watching University of Maryland college basketball, Washington Wizards basketball and the Baltimore Orioles. He spent many hours on his computer, and in many instances taught himself how to communicate and stay connected by using the computer. Floyd was a 66 year member of the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., and a member of Antioch Methodist Church.
He is survived by four children, Trent Hancock (Wendy), Craig Hancock(Karen), Marita Newsome, and Terri Ford (Greg), eight grandchildren, Rhonda Gabbard(Derek), Ericka Pate, Kimberly Parks (Jamie), Kelly Wagner (Steve), Kandice Bond (Nick), Mike Newsome, Coty Newsome (Erika Lind), Katie Ford (Nick), and nineteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister in law, Linda Boltz, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Curtis L. Hancock, brother, Norris Hancock, sister in law Mary Hancock, nephew Wayne Hancock, and son in law Jerry Covell.
A graveside service will be held at 11am at Beechwood Cemetery, West Post Office Road, in Princess Anne, Maryland on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Donations in his memory may be made to the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company, 11794 Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne, MD., 21853 or Antioch Church Technology Fund, 11656 Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne, MD 21853.
