Elmer Elmo Powell, formerly of Princess Anne, Maryland, died Friday, November 23, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland. Born in Allen, Maryland on August 19, 1915, he was a son of the late Walter F. and Ethel Powell, also of Somerset County.
Mr. Powell was a retired Mechanic and school bus contractor and was a devoted and lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Princess Anne, MD. "Pop-Powell" is remembered for his faithful attendance of that church and time spent taking care of the nursery for many youngsters during his tenure.
He was married to Lola Blanch Powell for 60 years, prior to her death on April 3, 1998. He is survived by a son, Richard R. Powell and his wife Harriett of Delmar, MD., a daughter, Barbara A. McLeod and her husband Alan McLeod of Salisbury, two granddaughters, Jennifer P. Decker and her husband Alan Decker of Hampstead MD. and Aubrey McLeod of Salisbury, MD., and a grandson, Nicholas McLeod and his wife Elizabeth McLeod also of Salisbury, MD. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Benjamin William Decker and Morgan Elizabeth Decker of Hampstead, MD and Conner and Ethan Mcleod of Salisbury, MD.,three nieces, Eleanor M. Brown, Linda Jean Hopkins, and Pamela Ann Hopkins and her husband Tom, and one nephew, Walter James Powell.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11:00 am. in the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD. Friends may call One hour prior to service. Interment will follow the service in the St Andrews Episcopal Cemetery in Princess Anne.
