Obituary

Princess Anne - Elizabeth Ann Cook, 89, died March 4, 2022, at Manokin Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Princess Anne.
Mrs. Cook, affectionately known as "Betty," to her family and friends, lived most of her life in Upper Fairmount, where she was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. She served as a trustee, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She also served as treasurer and secretary of the Methodist Women.
Mrs. Cook served as president of the Fairmount PTA, and later, was president and a trustee at Fairmount Academy.
She also was a member of the Princess Anne Business Women., and was a member and president of the senior l auxiliary board at Edward McCready Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered at nursing homes and sang with visiting groups to the delight of the residents there. Her favorite activities once she became a resident herself were visiting the dining hall to listen to entertainers, play bingo and enjoy "happy hour" refreshments.
In addition to working on the family farm, Mrs. Cook sold Avon to residents throughout Fairmount, Frenchtown and Rumbley.
A very sociable woman, Mrs. Cook enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and she was a competitive player. She loved to cook and bake and often hosted friends for cookouts. She was a good cook and her coconut Easter eggs and homemade pies were a favorite. She was a strict disciplinarian and people often remarked how well-behaved her young children were.
She loved to go to the beach, and took her children to Raccoon Point and Assateague Island often in the summer. Later, she enjoyed weeks at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with extended family members.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jackson Lee Cook, and her son, Jackson Lee Cook Jr. After their deaths, the farm became too much for her and she moved from Upper Fairmount to Princess Anne.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her daughters, Deborah Cook Nissley, of Crisfield; Melanie Cook (Trent) Roberts, of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Nancy Cook (Rex) Lauer, of Hilo, Hawaii, as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Virginia Malchiodi, of Wallingford, Connecticut, Patricia LaFar of Swanton, Vermont, and Alice Matson, of Flagler Beach, Florida.
