Obituary

Oriole – Edgar Samuel Malone, a life- long resident of Oriole, MD passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the age of 89.
"Sam" as he was well known by all, is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Webster) Malone, son William "Eddie" Malone, daughter Jennifer Malone, his one and only grandson and the apple of his eye, Aidan Webster, niece Terrie Simpkins of Altamonte Springs, FL and his much beloved companion, his cat Doodles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Della (Bloodsworth) Wilson and Ed Malone, losing his father when he was only 13,a beloved sister, Betty Simpkins of Altamonte Springs, FL, two half-brothers and their spouses, Russell and Lillian Malone of Allen, MD, and Robert and Marian Malone of Snow Hill, MD.
Sam was born on August 31, 1931. He graduated from Washington High School in 1949. He served in the Navy , was stationed in Japan and honorably discharged in 1957. Upon returning home, he worked for Acme and the Dept. Of Natural Resources Police until settling into a long career with Dresser-Wayne in Salisbury, MD from which he would retire.
He was a great outdoorsman with a permanent tan. He loved to fish and trotline, spending many days on the water with family & friends. One very special friend who shared these loves is Steve Horner and he treasured all the time they spent together. He was quite the golfer and many will remember seeing him towing his golf cart to Pocomoke for rounds with his son or another dear friend Nick Bozman. He spent countless hours cutting grass, his and others. He loved to watch professional wrestling and it brought him so much happiness to share that again years later with Aidan after spending many Saturdays and trips to the civic center for matches when Jennifer was young. He loved fixing things, especially cars with his longtime friend Tommy Walston. He always had a job to do that usually required Eddie's help. He believed in hard work and doing things right the first time. Sam was an avid coin collector and could be found at the auctions almost every weekend. Many friendships were formed there, especially with his dear friend, Carol Wolf. He never met a stranger and was always up for conversation. He loved nature and animals, caring for many pets over the years. He always said "you can judge people by how they treat animals." His only regret may have been not finishing his pilot's license. Sam loved air planes and flying, having "Patsy" take him for many trips to the airport to watch the planes come and go. Years of air shows; and plane expos, time spent and memories made with family.
He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and friend. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Sam would ask you to please adopt a pet or make a donation to the Humane Society of Somerset County, 29951 Fairmount Rd Westover, MD 21871
