Princess Anne - On Thursday, December 3, 2020, Douglas "Doug" Aubrey Bloodsworth, Jr., loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at his home in Princess Anne, MD at age 68. He lost his battle with Leukemia and is now with the Lord.
Born in Salisbury, MD February 22, 1952, he was a son of Barbara (Pugh) Bloodsworth and late Douglas Aubrey Bloodsworth.
Doug graduated from Washington High School class of 1970 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1974 from Salisbury State College, now Salisbury University, and later received a Master of Science in 1984 from UMES.
Along with his mother, Barbara Bloodsworth, he is survived by his wife, Robin Bloodsworth; his children Eric Douglas Bloodsworth and his wife Jill, James Giannini, and Michele Price and her husband Matthew; his grandchildren Joshua Giannini, Elle Bloodsworth, Natalie Price, and Harper Giannini; sister Deborah Bloodsworth; brother David Bloodsworth and his wife Alisa; nephew David Bloodsworth Jr. and his wife Emily and niece Allison Bloodsworth.
Doug was known for his ability to fix anything, his love of history, his quick wit, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
In his younger years, Doug had a love for music, playing in his high school band; was an accomplished member of the Boy Scouts where he became an Eagle Scout; and at 16 he started playing fast pitch softball where he was an all-star player as a catcher and 1st baseman, was a league batting champ in 1973 and later went on to play in the Fastpitch Nationals in Decatur, Illinois in September of 1985.
Doug valued his career and education, and accepted any challenge thrown his way. From 1976-1990 he developed and taught The Fisheries Course at JM Tawes Technology & Career Center; coached baseball at both Crisfield and Washington High Schools; received coach and teacher of the year awards in 1990; was Vice Principal at Crisfield High School and then later at Washington High School where he advanced to Principal before he took a Principal role at JM Tawes Technology & Career Center; Supervisor of athletics; Supervisor of secondary instruction and then retired as Assistant Superintendent of Somerset County Schools.
During Doug's later years, he was on the board of the Hudson Center; Secretary and Treasurer for the Bayside Athletic Conference, Treasurer of MPPSAA District VII; referred basketball; and was an active member of his community where he volunteer with the Somerset Ruritan at their annual carnival and benefit softball tournament. Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and working on any project you gave him, spending a lot of time working on his boat, fishing and at times, improving his golf game.
The family has chosen to follow the COVID-19 health guidelines to protect the health and well-being of family and friends. At this time, a service will not be held.
