Darlene Cecilia Webster, age 67, of Princess Anne, went to be with the Lord, March 10, 2015 surrounded by her loving husband, children and other family members. Born in Princess Anne, Maryland on June 26, 1947 she was the daughter of the late Martin and Edwina Shores of Wenona, Maryland.
Darlene was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne where she loved and took pride in competing in Declamation contests. She worked as a secretary for Campbell Soup until her children came along. Later, she received her Associates Degree from Wor-Wic Community College. She worked for a period of time at Eastern Correctional Institution in medical records and later started her own word processing business at home.
Darlene had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the desire of her heart was to share Him with everyone she met. She served Him faithfully in the work she did as a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, serving as Lay Leader, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and leading Local Church children's ministries. Her work for the Lord also included serving as the President of the Somerset County Bible Society and holding several positions on the Salisbury District and Conference level including serving as the Lay Leader for the Peninsula-Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Darlene loved her family summer vacations to Vermont and leaves several friends from there. She especially enjoyed her trip to Israel where she had wanted to go since a teenager. She traveled several places in the country and even on a trip to Seoul, Korea with the Peninsula-Delaware Conference. Her vacations to Hawaii and Alaska were also special to her.
Darlene was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Neil Webster and beloved children, Lori Laird and husband, Tommy; Marty Webster and wife, Heather, John Webster and wife, Lindsay; Joe Webster and wife, Mary Beth. Darlene loved dearly and always talked about her eight beautiful grandchildren, Abby, Ethan, Gabe, Ben, Molly, Caleb, Emma, and Sarah. She leaves behind her dear sisters, Beaty Johnson and husband, Jasper; and Terri Barnes and husband, Wayne; a special cousin Rev. Dr. Rick Vance; her Uncle Murray Shores and his wife Sylvia; three nieces Mandi Barnes, Megan Barnes, and Mamie Johnson; and two nephews, Jordon and Johnny Johnson. She was preceded in death by her brother, Marty Shores and her sister, Sarah Shores. She leaves behind a host of friends and family members.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent in Darlene's memory to Camp Pecometh. Checks can be sent to 136 Bookers Wharf Road, Centreville, MD. 21617. The mission of Camp Pecometh is to provide sanctuary for Christian hospitality and programming that promote God-inspired, life changing experiences through camp retreat ministries.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1401 Camden Ave., Salisbury, MD. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
