Obituary

Salisbury— Charles Long Flurer, 86died Friday July 29, 2011. Born July 5, 1925 in Salisbury Md., he was the son of the Late Hattie Frances Gibbons and Harry Flurer.
Charles was a 1944 Washington High Sool Graduate. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1947 with an Honorable Discharge. In Sept. 1947, he opened his Business , East Side Soda Bar and Grill, on Church & Isabella Street, Located in the old A.&P. Grocery Store Building. He was also Employed by Clark's Grocery Store on Church and Elizabeth ST. and in the Cash Market on East Church & Isabella ST. In 1952 he started working at E.I. Dupont & Co., on the "B" Shift Operation Area, working for 12 years, then transferring to the Works Engineering Dept. retiring after 32 years of service. Charlie was in Real Estate, a Mortgager, and had Race Horses and he loved to travel.
After being discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1947, Charlie joined the U. S. Army National Guard—29th Division—HGRS , 3rd. Battery serving 12 years. He then transferred to the U. S. Army Reserve retiring in 1959. Charlie also served in the Army Reserve in Seaford, Delaware-#275 S&S Battery—from 310 TA Com. Area Commander, from Fort Belvoir Res. Armory, in 1984. Serving a total of 40 years as a E-9., Sergeant Major.
Charlie was a Life member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge, Life member of the Salisbury V.F.W., Life member of the American Legion in Salisbury and was involved with the Cooties V.F.W. –Honorable Degree' A member of the Eagles, The Salisbury Elks Lodge, the 29th. Division Association, the Dupont 25 Year Club, and the East Side Men's Club.
He is survived by two sons, Greg Flurer and his wife Sandy of Berlin, and Brian Flurer and his wife Nancy of Hebron, four grandchildren, Matthew, Brittany, David, and Michael.
One Brother, Henry Flurer of Princess Anne and a sister Becky Hopkins and her husband Richard, of Salisbury, a nephew, Chris Flurer and his wife Sally and a niece, Sheila and her husband Mark, Also a great nephew, Brad Flurer.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday August 4, 2011, at 2:30 PM. in the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Md. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Harry Weir will Officiate Interment will follow in the Flurer Family Cemetery, on Flurer's Lane in Princess Anne.
