MT. VERNON - Catherine Watson, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Tidal Health in Salisbury, MD. Born on October 5, 1930 in Pasadena, Maryland, she was the daughter of George and Margaret Dreyer of Mt. Vernon.
She attended Salisbury State Teachers College from 1958-1962 and received a BS Degree in Education. Her teaching career spanned 16 years in the Somerset County school system; after which she worked with the Somerset County Hunger Action Committee. Then she studied for her BA degree in Social Work at Salisbury State and returned to her teaching career at the Eastern Shore Correctional Institution. She considered the inmates in her classes as her family, as they called her "Mom".
She was a devoted Christian who spent her life teaching Sunday School, Bible School, and donating her time at the Christian Shelter in Salisbury. She raised her children in the Asbury Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. And in later years she was a steady member of the Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne. Her mission in life was to be in service to the Lord.
Another love of her life was travelling. She traveled through many states in the US, also visiting many countries; her favorite being the Holy Land.
She is survived by a brother, George Dreyer, Jr. of Westover. Three children: Dale Watson (Silvia) of Salisbury, Marlene McIntyre (Ron) of Mt. Vernon and Carla Colvin of Mt. Vernon. Grandchildren: Donna Carroll of Fairfax, VA, Warren Tilton, III of Mt. Vernon, Stephen Daugherty of Lexington Park, Tara Altman of Barnwell, SC, and Danny Baltezegar of Mt. Vernon. Great-Grandchildren: Lauren Tilton, Ashley McIntyre, Jim McIntyre, Christy Shores, John and Mary Sigrist, Chloe, Maria and Isaac Watson, Shawnie Daugherty, Isaiah, Elijah, Malachi and Nehemiah Altman, and Daniel Baltezegar, Jr. Five great-great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Edward Watson; daughter Brenda Lee Daugherty; grandson Brian Watson, grandson Matthew Watson, and grandson James McIntyre.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tim Shawyer will officiate. Interment will be at Asbury Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
