Obituary

Captain Raymond Wesley Collins, 86, of Mount Vernon, Maryland passed away Sunday September 28, 2014 at his home in Princess Anne. Born on March 21, 1928, in Mount Vernon, he was the son of the late Auther and Ina Belle Collins. Capt. Collins was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving on the U. S. S. Washington during World War II. After his service in the Navy Capt. Collins took to the Sea, spending his entire adult life working on the water. He retired from Interstate Oil Transport as a Barge Captain. He enjoyed his church, was a member of the O.T. Beauchamp American Legion Post in Princess Anne, and he was active in Community Events. Raymond was loved by all the hearts he touched.
He is survived by a wife, Phyllis Collins, a brother, Omar Collins, a niece, Georgiana Odom, several cousins, nieces and a nephew.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Thelma Collins, three sisters, Margaret Waller, Elizabeth Gibbons, and Ina Mae Collins, and two brothers Gorman and Donald Collins.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a graveside service in the Asbury United Methodist Cemetery in Mount Vernon, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at 11:30 AM. Rev. Danny Travers will officiate. Visitation will continue with a luncheon following the service in the Church Hall.
