Betty Friedel Powell passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the age of 91. Mrs. Powell was born in 1925 in Seaford, Delaware on July 17. She was one of two daughters born to Ella Wright Friedel and William M. Friedel and was the spouse of Elmo W. Powell, Jr. of Princess Anne, Md. Mr. Powell passed away in 2008 after 62 years of marriage.
They were the parents of two sons, Timothy G. Powell and his wife Katheryn of Houston, Texas and Daniel W. Powell of Salisbury, Md. Betty is also survived by a granddaughter, Anne Powell Lartique and her husband, Kristopher of Houston, a sister, Dottie and her husband, Carroll Beard of Seaford, De., along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Mrs. Powell was educated at Seaford High School, Sullins College in Bristol, Va., and the Moore Institute of Art in Philadelphia. She was employed at the Princess Anne Library for many years and spent many volunteer hours at volunteer work for the Somerset County Historical Society, the Somerset County Historical Trust and Coastal Hospice.
A service is scheduled for 11 A.M. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Antioch U.M. Church where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Tina Whaley and Dr. James Doran will officiate. Contributions can be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.
